Tyler Robinson, accused of attempting to assassinate Charlie Kirk, is being monitored closely in a Utah jail, according to a report.

Tyler Robinson, the accused assassin of Charlie Kirk, is currently being held under heightened surveillance at the Utah County Jail. He faces serious charges of aggravated murder stemming from the shooting of the conservative activist.

The 22-year-old is on constant watch to prevent self-harm or potential harm to others until a mental health professional can assess his state. It’s uncertain whether he made any threats to himself since his arrest on Friday.

Robinson’s father, Matt, recognized his son’s troubling intentions as early as September 10 when he learned about the potential threat against Kirk at Utah Valley University. Confronting his son about authorities’ surveillance images, Robinson replied that he would prefer to kill someone than be apprehended by police.

As a result of these concerns, jail officials categorized Robinson for special monitoring as a precaution. Security measures in the prison include extensive camera coverage aimed at ensuring inmate safety and monitoring by guards, according to reports.

With charges including aggravated murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm, causing severe injury, and obstructing justice, Robinson is currently being held without bail. Notably, aggravated murder is the only charge in Utah that can carry a death penalty.

Allegedly, Robinson fired a rifle at Kirk while he was on campus for his American comeback tour. The incident occurred while Kirk was discussing a transgender mass shooter during a segment of his event, and he was struck in the neck.

The shooter was reported to be on the roof of a building, overlooking the courtyard where the event took place. Surveillance footage captured a figure dressed in black fleeing from the scene before disappearing into the parking area.

Authorities are searching for a dark gray Dodge Challenger, believed to have been used by the gunman prior to the incident. This vehicle, owned by Robinson, was recovered from outside his parents’ home shortly after his arrest.

Subsequently, it surfaced that Robinson had jokingly referenced the shooting in a group chat with around 20 acquaintances, a day after the event. According to reports, he mentioned, “Tyler killed Charlie!!!” and another participant even suggested claiming a $100,000 reward from the FBI, to which Robinson responded humorously, indicating a disconnection from the severity of his actions.
