The Biden Administration Defamed Charlie Kirk as a Violent Extremist — Now They Need to Be Held Responsible

When President Donald Trump announced the death of Charlie Kirk, he pointed fingers at political violence and the organizations that “fund it and support it.” Ironically, he doesn’t need to look far—past administrations and the Biden administration fit that description. They’ve gone beyond simply misusing funds; their actions toward legal political discourse have crossed into criminal territory.

The Media Research Center (MRC) has consistently highlighted the reckless language from federal agencies aimed at undermining conservative voices and movements, including Kirk and his group, Turning Point USA.

Two years ago, MRC released a document revealing how the Biden administration utilized tax resources to discredit Christians, conservatives, and Republicans via the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Targeted Violence and Terrorism grant program.

Within this initiative, designed to combat “extremism,” DHS secured funding at the University of Dayton to promote what they called the “far-right pyramid of radicalization.”

This pyramid notably implicated Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, in conjunction with other mainstream conservative entities, linking them to neo-Nazis and other extremists. The implication was clear: the government seemed to suggest that mainstream conservative groups were somehow paving the way for domestic terrorism.

Among the organizations branded as “radical” were the American Conservative Union Foundation, the Pro Police Blue Lives Matter Movement, Breitbart, the Christian Broadcasting Network, Fox News, the Heritage Foundation, the Make America Great Again movement, the NRA, and the Tea Party Patriot.

Kirk himself shared an MRC report on X, commenting on the situation.

Following those revelations, MRC founder Brent Bozell participated in a discussion with Kirk on his podcast, where he elaborated on the misuse of federal funds against Republicans and conservative organizations. “It’s now a documented fact that the Biden administration is targeting these groups,” Bozell remarked. “And yes, they are specifically going after Turning Point USA.”

The absurdity of it all leads one to wonder, “Is this even legal? Should federal resources be used to categorize organizations like ours in such a manner?”

The Biden administration continued to focus on Kirk in 2024, this time referencing a non-governmental organization in Ukraine funded by the State Department. A group called Texty published what Fox News described as a “list of enemies,” which identified individuals and groups opposing U.S. support for Ukraine, including Turning Point USA and Kirk.

There were reports linking these actions to past efforts of censorship initiated by previous administrations, silencing dissenters in a growing climate of hostility.

The repeated slandering and false associations of Kirk—along with his organization—have contributed to a dangerous environment where extremist violence is normalized. Former President Biden may have publicly condemned Kirk’s death, but the administration’s history of targeting conservative figures and resources has fostered this atmosphere.

The reality after Kirk’s assassination should not go unnoticed. When government entities, activist groups, and media outlets weaponize their rhetoric against political opponents, it poses a real risk to personal safety. Kirk’s tragic demise serves as a stark reminder that words matter, and those who seek to silence conservative viewpoints must face consequences to prevent further loss of life.
