Marcia Cross Faces Backlash for Controversial Statements

Actress Marcia Cross, known for her role in “Desperate Housewives,” has been labeled “anti-Semitic of the Week” by a Jewish watchdog group, which criticized her for promoting what they term “anti-Semitic rhetoric.” This follows her pro-Palestinian activism and harsh criticism of Israel regarding actions in Gaza.

The 63-year-old actress has expressed views on social media, claiming that U.S. support for Israel equates to endorsing brutality in Gaza. In a particularly jarring statement, she suggested that “gas chambers” were “more merciful” than starvation, drawing a controversial parallel between the Holocaust and the current crisis.

A spokesperson for the advocacy group noted that her posts recirculated classic anti-Semitic themes, diminishing the significance of Jewish suffering and endangering the Jewish community both online and in real life. This commentary comes in light of a violent conflict that escalated after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, resulting in numerous fatalities and hostages.

Cross has made several provocative statements, accusing various Western leaders of complicity with Israel. On August 10, she posted a message targeting supporters of Israel, referring to them as “the bile of the universe.” This aligns with a broader trend in her online activities, which appear to vilify the Jewish state while expressing support for Palestinian perspectives.

Her controversial remarks included assertions about American politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, being aligned with Israeli interests. Furthermore, she shared slogans like “From every river to every ocean, we will end our accomplice,” apparently endorsing movements aimed at breaking the siege in Gaza.

Cross also questioned the purpose of Holocaust Museums if they remain silent regarding current events, stirring further criticism. According to the watchdog group, Cross is openly spreading anti-Semitic sentiments, which puts her over a million social media followers at risk of being influenced negatively.

As a public pressure campaign against her continues, a call has been issued for her talent agency to reconsider their representation of her. Critics argue that she has transitioned from being an accomplished actress, recognized for her Emmy-nominated performances, to becoming a figure associated with incendiary rhetoric.

Cross, who has also faced personal health challenges, has not publicly commented on the backlash as of yet.
