Brandon Aubrey's field goal lifts Cowboys over Giants in a thrilling overtime finish

Giants vs. Cowboys: A Close Call

The New York Giants were so close to defeating the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas for the first time since 2016, but kicker Brandon Aubrey had other plans on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Giants quarterback Russell Wilson made an impressive showing, throwing for 450 yards and connecting on a 48-yard touchdown pass to Malik Neighbors, putting New York ahead 37-34 with just 25 seconds on the clock. It was the third touchdown drive of the half, with both teams exchanging scores as Wilson and Dak Prescott took charge.

Prescott, fully aware of his team’s situation, strategically used his timeouts to position Aubrey, who is considered one of the NFL’s top kickers. With time dwindling—14 seconds left, then just 10—Prescott completed an 18-yard pass to Jake Ferguson, getting them into range for a potential tie kick. Javonte Williams ran toward the left hash, setting up Aubrey for a 64-yard attempt.

Though the kick veered right at first, it eventually stayed true, sending the game into overtime at 37-37.

Once in overtime, both teams initially went three-and-out on their opening drives. After forcing a Cowboys punt, Wilson had a chance to seal an incredible victory in his first game with the Giants. Yet, on a crucial second-and-thirteen, he found himself without open receivers and attempted a risky deep pass from a difficult angle. Donovan Wilson intercepted it, shifting the game’s momentum back to Dallas.

Realizing the urgency, Prescott quickly took control, finding George Pickens for a 27-yard gain and then scrambling for another 14 yards to set up a 46-yard attempt for Aubrey, who nailed it. Cowboys fans collectively exhaled as the team emerged victorious once again over their NFC East rivals.

The Giants, who struggled in Week 1 without scoring a touchdown, appeared more confident this time around. Wilson benefited from improved protection, connecting with Neighbors for nine receptions totaling 167 yards and two touchdowns, while Wan’Dale Robinson contributed with eight catches and added a crucial fourth touchdown in the fourth quarter. Rookie Cam Scattebo also got in on the action, scoring his first career touchdown.

On the flip side, the Cowboys weren’t without their own standouts. Prescott managed to throw for 361 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. CeeDee Lamb was a key target, leading with nine catches for 112 yards, and Pickens marked his territory by scoring his first touchdown wearing a Cowboys uniform.

Javonte Williams was once again a formidable running back, rushing for 97 yards on 18 attempts and adding his third touchdown of the season. Miles Sanders also made his mark with a rushing touchdown.

This NFC East clash was yet another thrilling encounter, yet Dallas continued to dominate, extending its winning streak over the Giants.
