Emmys 2025 Host Nate Bargatze Makes Hollywood A-listers Shorten Their Monologues with a Major Charity Challenge

2025 Emmys Host Introduces New Game to Reduce Speech Lengths

Nate Bargatze, hosting this year’s Emmys, has decided to skip the usual monologue in favor of a game designed to keep winners’ speeches under 45 seconds. He’s pledged to donate $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of America, but there’s a twist: for every second over the 45-second limit, he will deduct $1,000 from that donation. Interestingly, for every second under that limit, he’ll add $1,000 back to the total.

This approach aims to keep the show moving and, perhaps, to put a bit of pressure on the Hollywood elite to keep things concise.

Kicking off the event with a Cold Open Sketch, Bargatze portrayed television inventor Philo T. Farnsworth, humorously envisioning the future of television—a nod to his popular George Washington sketch from Saturday Night Live.

After accepting an award, Seth Rogen returned to Bargatze, who jokingly reflected on how CBS had left him to find entertaining ways to maintain the schedule. “Everyone gets 45 seconds,” he instructed. “If you have more to say, take it to social media later.”

Bargatze acknowledged the donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs, emphasizing the fun of the game: “Remember, it’s only $100,000 if you keep it short,” he noted.

“If you go over, we’ll take $1,000 away from the clubs,” Bargatze mentioned, adding some humor about the harshness of the rule. “But this is the game I’ve created. These are the rules.”

As the show progressed, he noted, “We’ve already begun; Seth had no clue. What did Seth do? He’s finished… he was down.” The contributions grew, and the total reached $106,000 by the time he wrapped up his segment.

Laughter followed as Bargatze commented, “I’m footing the bill here, so don’t get carried away. Some of you can go a little over; just do the right thing.” He then reiterated the importance of sticking to the rules and encouraged the audience to enjoy the rest of the show.

At the time of the report, the total stood at $98,000, with Katherine Lanatha taking a moment to connect with the audience after winning her award for best supporting drama actress.
