Justin Fields' concussion worsens the already disappointing performance by the Jets

Fields Struggles in Week 2

Week 1 was fantastic for Justin Fields. But, the second week? Not so much.

It could be that the opponent was just better, or maybe the Steelers had figured out their game plan, but whatever it was, it felt like a standard setback. It wasn’t a shining moment for him.

Fields was largely ineffective in the 30-10 loss to the Bills, and now, with a concussion sustained early in the fourth quarter, his development is in question.

This certainly wasn’t the performance the Jets expected from their new starting quarterback. Fields completed only 11 passes out of 27 attempts for a mere 27 yards, and he fumbled during a quarterback keeper, resulting in the Jets only managing field goals for three quarters.

There were missed throws, notably to Garrett Wilson on their opening drive. It was clear his mobility, a key part of his game, wasn’t utilized much against the Bills, a stark contrast to how he performed against the Steelers just a week prior.

“We really didn’t find our rhythm on offense. It was challenging for everyone,” Wilson remarked. “We let him down today. After all, the receivers need to step up and make plays when it matters.”

Even coach Aaron Glenn didn’t have much positive to share about Fields’ efforts. When asked about the passing game, he simply stated, “That wasn’t good.”

To be fair, though, the entire offense was off its game. The offensive line had difficulty creating any openings, especially before Buffalo began pulling some of their starters.

After a week where the Bills allowed 238 rushing yards to the Ravens, they seemed to have decided to challenge the Jets to pass the ball. Unfortunately, Fields couldn’t capitalize.

As Glenn noted, “Whatever issues they had last week, they fixed them. That’s part of this league.”

The situation took a turn for the worse for Fields early in the fourth quarter when he was hit by Joey Bosa. He went into the injury tent on the Jets’ sideline and later emerged with a towel over his head, heading to the locker room.

It seems he might have some time to reflect on this tough game.
