Sean Manaea of the Mets moves to the bullpen in a new change to the rotation

Mets’ Sean Manaea Set for Bullpen Role

Sean Manaea’s next outing with the Mets will be from the bullpen, as confirmed by manager Carlos Mendoza. This week’s rotation is being adjusted, taking advantage of the off-day on Monday to restructure things a bit.

Clay Holmes will kick off the series as the starter, with Manaea slated to follow. After a recent 5-2 win against the Rangers, Mendoza indicated that there wasn’t a strict plan for how Manaea would be utilized.

“I think it really hinges on the lineup we face and the situation we find ourselves in during the game,” Mendoza remarked. “We need to stay adaptable.”

This week, Mendoza did not lay out the complete rotation, but he did mention that David Peterson and Jonah Ton could follow Holmes in the upcoming Padres series.

It’s been a rough season for Manaea; he’s struggled as a starter, holding a 5.76 ERA across 11 appearances, of which ten were starts. In his last outing against the Phillies, he faced challenges early but bounced back after a talk with Mendoza, managing to pitch three scoreless innings.

On a different note, Francisco Lindor had a standout moment, stealing two bases in the first inning—marking his second career game with multiple steals this season. He now has 116 stolen bases with the Mets, placing him tied for the seventh-highest total in franchise history.

In another highlight, Ryne Stanek held the autorunner in a scoreless tenth inning, but the Mets ultimately emerged victorious as they scored in the bottom of the frame. This was Stanek’s second consecutive outing without allowing a run.

Finishing the season, the Mets went 24-24 in interleague play, making it two years in a row that they’ve managed 24 wins against the American League.

Pete Alonso hit a walk-off home run, tying him with Mike Piazza, Creon Flores, Chris Jones, and Kevin McReynolds on the Mets’ all-time leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Francisco Alvarez had a productive game, reaching base three times and continuing his solid performance lately, boasting a .313/.353/.667 batting line with four home runs and ten RBIs over the last 16 games.
