Tough Day for the Jaguars
This Sunday was challenging for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Head coach Liam Cohen was visibly fired up after a frustrating moment involving wide receiver Diami Brown, who dropped a crucial pass in the fourth quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals. The throw from quarterback Trevor Lawrence came in above Brown’s chest. Instead of securing the catch and continuing the play, Brown let it go, which reignited tensions in a widely recognized moment of disappointment.
Cohen, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is now navigating his first stint as a head coach, understands the pressures that can come with the role. I guess dealing with players’ egos—like those of quarterbacks—can really test your mettle.
Cohen seemed to take it all in stride, saying, “Sometimes the employees are right and it’s, I guess, just about how it goes.” He was clear in expressing his support for Lawrence, emphasizing that the quarterback will improve with experience. In fact, Cohen mentioned needing to gather himself after that incident.
In post-game comments, he reflected on the energy of the match. “It was just one throw. It’s emotion; it’s not personal. [Lawrence’s] competitiveness is important, and he maintains a level head, which is beneficial for us,” Cohen shared.
Later, Lawrence completed the game with impressive stats—271 passing yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, completing 24 of 42 attempts. His take on the communication styles with Cohen was positive: “The communication is really high. The coaches are passionate. He honestly pushed me a bit more.”
Overall, it seems that mishaps are just part of the game, right? Sometimes, things simply happen.
