NFL Teams Remember Charlie Kirk

In the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s tragic death before a game in the second week of the NFL season, several teams took a moment to honor his memory. However, not every team chose to participate in the tribute.

The White House acknowledged the efforts of those teams paying respect to Kirk, noting their tribute in a statement released on Monday.

“We stand with the nation to commend these organizations for honoring those who uphold the values uniting us, while celebrating Kirk’s legacy,” the statement expressed.

The message continued, highlighting that “across the country, various sports teams and organizations have paused this week to commemorate Charlie Kirk’s impact. The White House appreciates these gestures as a celebration of his lasting influence as a proponent of faith and patriotism, recognizing the profound effect he had on countless Americans.”

The NFL announced that a tribute to Kirk was planned before the Thursday night game featuring the Green Bay Packers and Washington managers. Still, it was left up to each home team on Sunday to decide if they would hold a moment of silence.

Teams confirmed to have honored Kirk include the Packers, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, and Arizona Cardinals.

On the flip side, five teams opted not to participate:

  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Minnesota Vikings
  • Detroit Lions

Other sports organizations, like the New York Yankees, also offered tributes to Kirk.

While many sympathized and paid their respects, others voiced their outrage on social media, particularly from those on the left.

Meanwhile, the Houston Texans hosted a game on Monday night and included a memorial for all victims of violence.

“This acknowledgment showcases a broader appreciation for Kirk’s commitment to inspiring future generations of American patriots,” the White House reiterated. “We honor these organizations who are celebrating the values that bind us and join in recognizing his legacy.”

Attempts to reach the five teams that did not pay tribute yielded no immediate responses.
