Maurene Comey files a lawsuit against the Trump administration for her dismissal: ‘In spite of her outstanding work’

Former Prosecutor Sues GOP Over Unjust Firing

Mohren Comey, a former federal prosecutor and daughter of ex-FBI director James Comey, has initiated a lawsuit against the GOP administration. This follows her abrupt termination in July 2025, an action she claims occurred without any chance for contestation or prior notice.

Throughout her career, Comey was involved in high-profile cases, including those involving Sean “Diddy” Combs, former Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), and the sex trafficking cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

The lawsuit argues that the administration did not provide legitimate reasoning for her dismissal after nearly ten years of service at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York, implying that her firing was influenced by her father’s controversial status.

Despite her notable performance, Comey was dismissed on July 16, 2025—just a day after her office took significant steps in a public corruption case. The filing states she had recently received an “unresolved” performance review. Instead of a formal explanation, she received an email indicating her termination.

The lawsuit highlights a conversation with then-Interim U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, who told her, “All I can say is that it’s from Washington. I can’t say anything else to you,” when she inquired about the reasons for her dismissal.

After her removal, conservative activist Laura Rumer reportedly targeted Comey online, pushing for swift action against her and her husband. However, the lawsuit clarifies that her husband, Lucas Isacharov, had already “voluntarily resigned” from the Department of Justice months earlier.

In an email to her colleagues, Comey expressed concern, stating, “If a career prosecutor could be fired for no reason, fear could permeate the decision of someone who remains. Don’t let that happen.”

The lawsuit names several parties, including the Department of Justice, the President’s Office of Enforcement, and Attorney General Pam Bondy. Comey is seeking her former position and compensation for lost pay.
