Could the Chiefs Start 0-3?
What do you think? Is there a chance the Chiefs might kick off the season at 0-3?
According to Don Lagreca, ESPN New York’s host, that’s not going to happen. He expressed his thoughts on a recent show alongside Alan Hearn and Peter Rosenberg, suggesting “The NFL won’t let the Chiefs start 0-3.”
He elaborated on this theory during the broadcast, indicating that the league would likely facilitate a win against the Giants. After all, Kansas City is a major draw for viewers, especially for an upcoming national game.
“I’m sorry, but too much is riding on this,” Lagreca said, almost inviting skepticism. “Honestly, I could get fired for saying this, but the NFL just won’t allow the Chiefs to go into national television and lose, you know?”
As a bit of an aside, he quipped about the off-field chatter surrounding Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, jesting, “They’re engaged—well, maybe not officially, but we’ll see how that unfolds by next Monday. I can already predict at least three calls asking how that happened!”
Rosenberg pressed him, questioning whether the Chiefs truly needed a helping hand given that the Giants are currently 0-2. Lagreca responded with some leeway, stating, “Honestly, they’re just not good this season, and the league can’t let that happen.”
He concluded with a somewhat ambiguous remark about how people would react if the Giants came out with a shocking win.
Interestingly, this marks the Chiefs’ first time starting a season 0-2 since 2014. The upcoming game against the Giants will also be one of their first appearances on national television this season.
Following the Giants game, Kansas City will have several more high-profile matches, including NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” after this Sunday, a CBS game against the Ravens on September 28th, and “Monday Night Football” against the Jaguars on October 6th, followed by another “Sunday Night Football” against the Jaguars on October 12th.
