Molly Qerim to Leave ESPN Amid Transition

Molly Qerim’s departure from ESPN wasn’t quite the way she had hoped to share the news. On her Instagram story, she mentioned Tuesday morning that the news had come out sooner than she expected. Reports surfaced indicating that she turned down a new contract with ESPN and intends to leave the network by the end of the year.

Burke Magnus, ESPN’s content president, noted Qerim’s significant contributions since she joined in 2006, emphasizing her role in boosting “First Take” since becoming a host ten years ago. He praised her calm demeanor, professionalism, and supportive nature as a teammate.

Qerim expressed gratitude for her time on the show, stating, “After a lot of reflection, I decided it was time to close this incredible chapter and leave my first take.” She felt honored to have shared the desk with such talented and passionate colleagues.

While it remains uncertain when her last episode of “First Take” will air, Qerim seems to be looking forward to her next chapter, hinting at new possibilities with a smiley face in her message.

She has been a well-recognized figure since starting her hosting career on “First Take” in 2015, after previous roles at CBS Sports and the NFL Network. Prior to that, Qerim joined ESPN in 2006 and focused on digital and mobile platforms, even earning an Emmy for her work on “Fantasy Football Now” in 2008.

Born in Connecticut, she graduated from the University of Connecticut and has covered a range of sports, including college soccer and basketball, in her extensive career.
