Investigation into Assassination of Charlie Kirk Intensifies
The FBI, led by director Kash Patel, announced on Tuesday that over 20 individuals are under thorough investigation regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which occurred Wednesday.
Tyler Robinson, a suspect linked to Kirk’s assassination, addressed an inconsistency in a chat with an online friend. This person suggested he had killed Kirk, a conservative activist. Reports indicate that on Monday, there were discussions involving two familiar sources showcasing screenshots from the conversation. Republican Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri noted there were discrepancies in messages exchanged with Robinson. Patel mentioned there are indeed more than 20 individuals being scrutinized in this case.
“Unfortunately, there is some conflicting information,” Patel explained. “For those unfamiliar, this took place in an online gaming chat room with suspects participating. We’re following a legal process, collecting information that we can pass on to prosecutors. We aim to investigate everyone involved in that Discord chat.”
Hawley raised the question of whether it was fair to investigate so many participants in the reported chat. Patel responded, “It’s actually more than that. We’re looking into all of them.”
In a message before his arrest, Robinson reportedly mentioned, “Guys, I have bad news for you. I was from UVU yesterday. Sorry for all of this.” He also indicated in the chat that he was “supporting a sheriff’s friend” and expressed gratitude to the group for their “fun times and laughter.”
Discord has provided chat logs to law enforcement for the ongoing investigation against Robinson. A spokesperson for Discord stated, “During our investigation, we identified an account belonging to the suspect. However, we have not found any evidence suggesting the suspects coordinated this case through Discord or incited violence.”
