Fox News Digital’s Dominance in August Metrics
In August, Fox News Digital outperformed all major news entities across significant metrics such as viewership, social media engagement, and YouTube statistics. This trend shows that many Americans continue to turn to the platform for crucial information and insights.
The month was noteworthy not just for metrics, but also for events. There was a prominent summit involving President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with celebrity news, like the engagement announcement between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The stories covered varied widely, but it certainly caught public attention.
Despite heavy competition from major outlets like The New York Times, CNN, and others, Fox News Digital secured top rankings in key categories of viewership.
Fox News reported that it topped the charts in multi-platform minutes, racking up a staggering 3.6 billion minutes, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. The New York Times followed with 1.2 billion, a notable drop of 30%, while CNN experienced a sharp decline in viewership, falling to 826 million—with a 65% drop compared to last year. This marks the 54th consecutive month that Fox News led in this area.
When looking at multi-platform views, Fox News Digital again led with 1.8 billion. This was a 6% rise from the previous year. The New York Times collected 1.3 billion views but saw an 18% fall, and CNN lingered in third with 605 million views, a notable 54% dip.
It’s been 16 months since Fox News Digital led among competing brands in multi-platform views.
Fox News also boasted 88 million unique visitors on both desktop and mobile platforms, again surpassing CNN in major categories for the second consecutive month.
Fox One Unveils New Streaming Options
CNN struggled, reporting its worst monthly performance in terms of multi-platform views and minutes since tracking began in 2015.
In terms of average views per visit, Fox News Digital attained the highest rank, recording an average of 2.6 views per visit. Unique visitors across digital platforms reached 148 million, reflecting a 29% increase from the previous year.
Mixed Reactions to Coverage
According to Emplifi’s data, Fox News secured 386.2 million views on YouTube in August, outperforming all other news brands including MSNBC and CNN. This was a significant 65% rise in views compared to the same time last year and a 16% increase compared to July.
Fox News was also marked as the most active brand on social media during this competitive period, seeing a 213% increase from the previous year and a 24% boost from July. The interactions included a notable 71.9 million discussions on Facebook, 24.2 million on Instagram, and 5.3 million on X.
The Fox News mobile app attracted 6.3 million unique visitors during August’s news-heavy month. Additionally, foxbusiness.com achieved 220 million multi-platform minutes and 125 million multi-platform views, with 27.8 million unique visitors recorded.
Fox News Digital, along with CBS News, NBC News, The Washington Post, and ABC News, has made strides in tracking unique digital visitors. In contrast, brands like CNN and The New York Times chose not to participate in the metrics gathering.
