Eric Stonestreet recently mentioned that his “Modern Family” co-star, Sofia Vergara, had once dated Tony Gonzalez, a former tight end with the Chiefs.
During a segment on the “Like a Farmer” podcast, Stonestreet, who’s a devoted Chiefs fan, reflected on Vergara’s past relationship with the Hall of Fame player. This came up after host Pat Spinosa playfully suggested that Vergara might “date” retired quarterback Tom Brady, alluding to rumors of a “summer romance” involving the two.
Stonestreet expressed a bit of surprise, saying, “I mean, I can know. I guess. I don’t. She dated Tony Gonzalez years ago, and that’s a great story.”
He shared how they were chatting while he was sporting Chiefs gear. She asked if he was a fan and then mentioned, “I was on a date with the chief,” which led Stonestreet to realize she was talking about Gonzalez.
He seems a bit amused by the connection, saying, “I didn’t know that when Sofia Vergara was with Tony Gonzalez, but, well, yeah, she’s back with him.” Meanwhile, Gonzalez, who is now with his wife October Gonzalez, has four children.
As for Tony Gonzalez himself, during his time with the Chiefs, he set franchise records for receptions, yards, touchdowns, and 100-yard games. He was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Honor in 2018, and after retiring from the NFL in 2013, he ventured into sports commentary with Fox Sports.
This summer, Vergara was spotted spending time with Tom Brady in Ibiza, which, you know, raised some eyebrows. Photographs captured them together at a sailing event on a luxurious superyacht.
On the podcast, Stonestreet also touched on his ties to the Chiefs and shared a little about his relationship with Travis Kelce, noting Kelce’s kindness toward his family. He mentioned that even with the buzz surrounding Kelce’s summer romance with Taylor Swift, things have stayed the same for him.
“She’s a great person,” he commented. “I’m not going to sit here and say I know her, but I’m around her, and it’s enough to know, and I know Travis.”
