New College to Memorialize Charlie Kirk with Statue

New College in Florida announced on Tuesday plans to create a statue honoring the late Charlie Kirk to “respect his legacy and incredible work.”

According to a press release, the statue will be funded by local community leaders and is intended to stand on campus as a reminder of the importance of free speech and “civic discourse in American life.” Images shared in the announcement show the statue, which portrays Kirk engaged in conversation at a table with an empty chair beside him, symbolizing openness and dialogue.

Richard Corcoran, Chairman of New College, remarked that Kirk understood the university’s role in promoting free speech and ideas.

“These concepts are not luxuries; they are foundational to a Free Republic,” he continued, emphasizing that Kirk’s life serves as a reminder of the need to uphold these rights in order for the nation to endure.

Corcoran expressed determination for New College to take charge of this responsibility, aiming to be recognized as a leading institution in promoting civil debate and freedom of speech.

Jackson Dawson, president of the New College chapter of Turning Point USA, shared how Kirk inspired him.

“Meeting him solidified my dedication to fighting for free speech and open dialogue. Our chapter is proud to support this tribute on campus,” Dawson stated.

In the wake of Kirk’s tragic assassination, efforts were made to encourage students across the country to get involved with Turning Point USA. Following a speech by Kirk’s wife, Erica, it’s reported that the organization saw a surge of 18,000 new chapter requests from high schools and colleges nationwide.

“The movement my husband started will endure. I won’t allow it to fade,” Erica proclaimed during her address.

She asserted that her husband’s name would be remembered and that the mission he initiated is growing stronger. “I will make Turning Point USA the most significant movement this country has ever known,” she concluded, expressing love and a commitment to continue his legacy.
