Reporter Claims Texts Between Charlie Kirk's Assassin and His Trans Boyfriend Were 'Heartfelt'

Suspect in Murder Case Connected to Charlie Kirk

On Tuesday, ABC News reporter Matt Gutman described a significant text message exchanged between Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin and his transgender boyfriend as “impressive.”

Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray announced charges against the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, highlighting critical evidence, including communication with the suspect. Gutman expressed being struck by the message, wherein Robinson mentioned wanting to protect him.

“I’ve never really experienced a press conference like this before—it’s both fulfilling and, in a way, self-reflective. But it’s also, you know, really moving,” Gutman commented. “When the suspect reaches out to his assumed partner, there’s this acknowledgment of a complex identity—identified as male at birth but now identifying as female. Yet, there’s a plea to delete messages, essentially discouraging dialogue with law enforcement.”

Gutman went on, “There’s this heartbreaking duality at play that’s just tragic.”

Authorities have discovered a text where Robinson admitted to killing Twiggs, along with a plan to turn himself in. When asked why he committed the act, the suspect reportedly remarked about Kirk’s “hatred” and claimed “some hatred cannot be negotiated.”

Robinson also conveyed to Twiggs that his main concern was love, indicating his intentions to surrender.

Shortly prior to his self-inflicted injury, Robinson confessed to a friend in a discordant conversation, as reported by The Washington Post.

Charges against Robinson include aggravated murder, the unlawful discharge of a firearm resulting in serious injury, obstruction of justice, and violent crimes committed in the presence of children.

Robinson’s mother notified authorities that her son had become “more political” and had shifted toward “more gay and right-oriented” views in recent years.

Gray stated that Robinson targeted Kirk due to “political expressions,” noting that such targeting could potentially lead to harsher penalties. During a two-day manhunt, Robinson’s parents confronted him after recognizing security footage of him on the news, urging him to confess.

When speaking to his parents, Robinson explained he killed Kirk because of the perceived “evil” and excessive “hatred” he attributed to him. This ultimately led his father to reach out to a youth pastor and inform authorities about the murder.

Many notable figures have attempted to frame Robinson as a conservative Christian based on his family background. However, reports revealed that Robinson claimed to be “deeply indoctrinated with left ideology.”
