Frank Somerville’s Fourth Arrest
The former news anchor, known for his erratic behavior, has been arrested for the fourth time in five years, reportedly following an altercation with his daughter concerning money.
Frank Somerville, who had been spending more time drinking than working for KTVU-TV, was taken into custody again on Monday, ending a two-year streak of avoiding legal trouble while claiming he was addressing his alcoholism.
According to authorities at Auckland Police Station, they are looking into the incident that occurred before 5:45 PM, though they did not provide specifics on the situation.
Somerville, 67, took to social media to share his side of the story, acknowledging his daughter’s role in the conflict. He described her as a “completely blown away weed addict,” stating she had come to his home seeking money.
In his account, he indicated that, despite telling her to leave, they somehow ended up in a “physical battle.” After the confrontation, Somerville contacted his ex-wife, saying their daughter was troubled.
Police arrived at his home after his daughter reported the fight, but Somerville claimed she told officers she didn’t wish to press charges.
He expressed his deep affection for his daughter, emphasizing that he would never intentionally harm her, while also hoping she receives the help she needs. He mentioned that he had been sober for nine months prior to this incident and felt calm at that time.
After his arrest, records indicated that he was released on bail. Somerville has had a tumultuous history, struggling with alcoholism and facing various legal issues over the years.
His troubles began to escalate in 2021 when he was involved in an accident after driving under the influence, shortly after both his arrest and his candid admission about his struggles. There were also two arrests in June 2023, one involving a fight with his brother and the other for being found inebriated in his car.
These issues seem to be compounded by an ongoing divorce process with his wife, who filed to end their marriage shortly after his first arrest.
