Royal Caribbean Cancels Haiti Port Stop Until Spring 2026
Royal Caribbean has decided to cancel its planned visits to Haiti’s private port until at least next spring. The cruise line typically stops at Labadee, located on the north coast of the island.
A representative from the Royal Caribbean Group mentioned that the decision was made out of “an abundance of caution,” leading to the suspension of visits until April 2026. The spokesperson also noted that they are directly communicating with their customers about the changes.
Recently, the U.S. State Department classified Haiti as a “non-travel” country, effective July 15th, due to various safety concerns.
They warned potential travelers, advising against going to Haiti because of crime, civil unrest, and limited healthcare options. Reports indicate that American citizens have been targeted, with some families reportedly paying huge ransoms for loved ones.
Despite this, Royal Caribbean has listed 41 itineraries on its site, many including stops at Labadee. The website describes this destination’s picturesque hilltops, endless sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs as ideal for relaxation and adventure.
In addition, it’s noted that Haiti boasts a rich cultural and natural landscape, encouraging visitors to explore its breathtaking coastline. However, it seems many are hesitating, as safety concerns loom large.
AAA recently released a forecast predicting that about 19 million Americans are expected to embark on cruises this year. Cruise industry expert Stewart Chillon, based in Miami, commented on the rising demand for cruises, particularly in the Caribbean, Alaska, and Europe.
Interestingly, the forecast suggests that 72% of cruise passengers will be heading to Caribbean destinations, perhaps looking for some much-needed sun and relaxation.
