Meta’s AI-Powered Smart Glasses Unveiling at Connect Developer Conference

Meta is gearing up to showcase its AI-driven smart glasses at the upcoming Connect Developer Conference on Wednesday. CEO Mark Zuckerberg continues to promote these glasses as a significant stride in human-computer interaction.

“Last year at MetaConnect, we saw fewer metaverses and much more focus on AI. This year, we aim to have AI at the forefront, especially concerning AI glasses and advanced intelligence,” Zuckerberg said. “While Meta has a head start in this area, the competition is gradually increasing.”

Based in Menlo Park, California, Meta recently teased a prototype of its Orion glasses. Zuckerberg has previously referred to these as “the most advanced glasses I’ve ever seen,” but they are still a few years from hitting the market.

Meanwhile, analysts anticipate Meta will reveal its new smart glasses, which may be controlled via wristbands that display user notifications for time, weather, and more. It sounds interesting, right? They could even handle tasks like translating speech or providing previews of photos, which is quite promising.

Meta is also expected to update its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, potentially enhancing them with AI capabilities to better interpret the user’s environment.

While the company hasn’t disclosed sales figures for its glasses, it claims, with the help of social media influencers, that the interest has exceeded expectations.

“Zuckerberg’s vision for Oculus and the Metaverse has been to blur the lines between the physical and digital realms through glasses and headsets,” said an analyst. “After several slow starts, there’s now real momentum to move beyond just early adopters.”

In addition, the company may announce new AI updates, including standalone apps. Like others in the tech sector, Meta has invested heavily in AI and recruited top-tier talent at competitive salaries.

This past July, Zuckerberg discussed his ideas about “personal superintelligence,” which he thinks could significantly speed up human progress. He mentioned that the development of such superintelligence is now “visible,” though he didn’t elaborate on what that means or how it’s achieved.

The concept of “superintelligence” often overlaps with what competitors term artificial general intelligence (AGI). This represents a shift for tech leaders who, after investing billions into virtual reality and related technologies, have rebranded to better align with these advancements.

Zuckerberg believes that AI glasses will be “the primary means to connect us closer together.” He is set to deliver a keynote speech at 8 PM Eastern on Wednesday.
