Charlie Kirk Statue Commissioned by University

Charlie Kirk’s legacy is being honored with a statue at a university that was once regarded as a bastion of leftist ideology.

On September 10, Kirk was awarded posthumously after he was tragically murdered. Authorities report that the suspect admitted in a text that he harbored a deep hatred for Kirk and felt unable to reconcile their differences.

In the time since, Kirk has received recognition from various organizations, including NFL teams and NASCAR drivers. Now, it seems a statue will also commemorate his impact.

A digital mockup of the statue, depicting a seated Kirk reaching across a table with a microphone, was shared online. This initiative comes from a New College in Florida, which stated it plans to honor his legacy following the tragic events of last week.

The statue’s funding, according to the school, comes from “community leaders” and is meant to symbolize a commitment to free speech and civic engagement within American society.

Interestingly, while the New College of Florida is the first to commission such a statue, it hasn’t always aligned with conservative values. In fact, it used to be seen as a safe haven for progressive LGBTQ discussions.

In recent years, the institution has undergone a significant shift. Some students described the college in 2023 as “a small, safe space in this increasingly hostile state.”

One student publicly identified as LGBTQ mentioned that it wasn’t what Governor Ron DeSantis wished to see for the school. “But he did,” they added, expressing an unsettling realization.

Following this, DeSantis pushed to eliminate “woke indoctrination,” disbanding the university’s diversity office and firing its head librarian and diversity chief, both of whom identified as LGBTQ. The changes resulted in a loss of about 36 faculty members and a notable exodus of 125 students who left voluntarily.

Some alumni lamented the school’s lost charm, while others indicated they felt the need to adapt their appearances due to fears of judgment from newly enrolled students.

“She changed her pink hair back and let her mullet grow out before returning to school,” remarked one former student about the pressures faced by some.

The university, located in Sarasota, Florida, saw a surprising increase in enrollment recently.

This semester registered around 900 students, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history, including 300 freshmen. It’s the third consecutive year that enrollment numbers have exceeded expectations.

The precise location of Kirk’s memorial statue has yet to be disclosed.

The New College of Florida was established in 1960.
