Florida Nurse Sentenced After Disturbing Incident
A Florida nurse has been handed a two-year prison sentence following a shocking incident involving her husband and her son. Last year, the husband was discovered inappropriately involved with their 15-year-old son-in-law while the family had been watching a horror movie late at night.
According to court records, the father came home unexpectedly from work to find the young man and his wife on the couch. In court on Monday, the nurse, Alexis von Yates, accepted a plea deal for charges of battery against minors aged 12 to 16, a serious offense in Florida, which could have led to a life sentence under different circumstances.
In a separate case, a 37-year-old teacher from New Jersey admitted to sexually assaulting two students, showcasing ongoing concerns in various communities about the safety of minors.
During the sentencing process, the victim’s mother characterized Alexis von Yates as an “incestuous pedophile,” emphasizing that her behavior had caused irreparable harm. The mother noted von Yates showed no remorse for her actions, which compounded the family’s anguish.
As part of the sentence, von Yates will serve her two years in state prison, followed by two years of supervised release and ten years of sex offender probation as a result of the incident on July 26, 2024. Authorities received anonymous tips about the situation just four days afterward, prompting a swift police investigation.
The victim indicated that there had been several inappropriate comments made by von Yates in the week leading up to the incident. It seems that the young man, along with his siblings, was visiting for the summer. Reports suggest that, on the night of the event, the adults had allegedly smoked THC and engaged in casual activities before the situation escalated.
In the midst of the chaos, the father reportedly confronted his wife upon learning of the situation, reacting with anger and calling her offensive names. After the incident unfolded, he instructed his son to pack and move to his grandparents’ place.
Judge Timothy McCourt, overseeing the case, stated he accepted the plea agreement largely due to the victim’s family being in agreement. Since the incident, it appears the father has not had communication with his son, further complicating familial relationships.
Von Yates was arrested at her home on November 6, 2024, and as part of her plea, she must also fulfill 200 hours of community service and pay various fines. Following her arrest, the Florida Department of Health suspended her nursing license.
