Miami Dolphins Struggling in 2025 Season
The Miami Dolphins have started the 2025 season on a rough note, looking particularly poor in their first two games. This lackluster performance has put head coach Mike McDaniel under significant pressure.
After losing to the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots, the Dolphins are facing a tough matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Currently, they sit with a point differential of -31, which is one of the worst in the league.
Former NFL linebacker Sean Merriman has suggested that changes may be on the horizon for the Dolphins. He mentioned that the team might soon shake things up, especially starting with McDaniel’s position. He noted, “You have an annoyed Tyreek Hill, who plays a critical role in your locker room.” If Hill is frustrated, it could lead to bigger issues within the team.
Merriman wasn’t impressed with McDaniel’s remarks during a recent press conference following the loss to the Patriots. He pointed out that McDaniel’s confusion about the team’s inability to score during crucial moments was concerning.
McDaniel stated, “That’s where there’s frustration for me. Either it cost us, or we didn’t decide on the late play call.” He added that while he had a play ready, improving oversight in late-game situations is necessary.
“To win a game, you have to make the right moves. You can’t let mistakes lead to losses,” he emphasized, indicating the team’s struggles to maintain momentum in games. Merriman expressed that McDaniel hasn’t instilled confidence in him through these comments.
Dolphins’ Future Under Scrutiny
Interestingly, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expressed some frustration himself after acknowledging that he may not be capable of making plays like star rival Josh Allen can. He seemed to convey a bit of the pressure on him.
Merriman reflected on McDaniel’s ability to handle adversity, saying, “Some of the answers coming from him indicate he may not be fully prepared for his head coaching role.” He acknowledged that while McDaniel is skilled as a coordinator, there’s a learning curve in leading a team.
On a brighter note, Dolphins legend Dan Marino recently gave a more optimistic take. He mentioned McDaniel’s offensive acumen and highlighted the importance of performing well in all four quarters, especially in tight games. Marino pointed out that the Dolphins believe a couple of mistakes cost them in their recent games.
However, there’s a stark reality for the Dolphins: they haven’t beaten the Bills since September 25, 2022, and their last win against them before that was all the way back in December 2018. Stage is set for a potential upset, but the uphill battle remains daunting.
