Senate Passes Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

Recently, the Senate came together to pass a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk following the tragic violence that led to his death. Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott spearheaded this initiative, designating October 14th as a national day of remembrance for Kirk, a well-known conservative activist.

Scott’s resolution received unanimous support in the Senate, emphasizing Kirk’s contributions even in his short life. “Charlie was taken from us on September 10th, 2025, due to a heinous act of political violence, but his legacy continues,” Scott stated on the Senate floor. He urged everyone to carry forward Kirk’s memory through ideas and beliefs that promote the values of the nation.

“Let’s honor Charlie by believing in the power of our ideas. Win this day and make this country a better place,” he continued. The resolution commended Kirk as a “champion of freedom of speech, dialogue, and faith,” highlighting his impacts throughout his 31 years.

Other legislators also took steps to memorialize Kirk. Senator Mike Lee from Utah introduced a resolution that condemned the circumstances of his death and celebrated his enduring legacy. Lee, echoing sentiments expressed by Scott, noted, “It’s just a flag, planted on the hill. What matters is where you carry it next,” which illustrates the importance of continuing Kirk’s mission.

The House is expected to vote on a resolution Friday against the political violence that led to Kirk’s assassination. Though Democrat leaders have voiced their support for it behind closed doors, a public push for party-wide agreement isn’t evident yet.
