Cassidy asks RFK Jr. to come and speak about CDC job dismissals

Cassidy Invites Kennedy to Testify Amid CDC Turmoil

Bill Cassidy, the Senate Health Committee Chairman from Louisiana, is looking to have Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. come forward to discuss the recent chaos at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Cassidy’s invitation follows testimony this week from Susan Monares, the former head of the CDC, who alleged instances of political interference overshadowing scientific data.

“President Trump is advocating for radical transparency, so he’s encouraging Secretary Kennedy to address the committee and share his perspective,” Cassidy stated. “This way, we can deliver a complete picture to Americans, enabling them to form their own judgments.”

Monares, the first CDC director confirmed by the Senate, was dismissed within a month of her appointment.

During her testimony, she claimed that Kennedy pressured her to back unethical modifications to federal vaccine policies, actions that lacked scientific backing, and that he circumvented the agency’s research protocols by announcing pivotal social media changes while also restricting communications with lawmakers.

When she opposed the suggestions from vaccine panels that Kennedy had filled with vaccine-skeptical allies, she stated that it cost her job.

Cassidy expressed a desire to reform the CDC and emphasized that he hopes Kennedy will “share his side of the story.”

“My goal is for President Trump to have the most effective CDC in our nation’s history. I aim to collaborate with him to realize my campaign promise of reforming the CDC and improving public health in America,” Cassidy added.

In a response to the situation, Andrew Nixon, the Communications Director for Health and Human Services (HHS), did not clarify if Kennedy would testify.

“We’re engaged in fruitful discussions with the committee about how to enhance America’s health,” Nixon remarked.

Cassidy, who is seeking reelection, finds himself navigating a complex political landscape with respect to Kennedy.

While he initially hesitated on supporting Kennedy due to concerns about anti-vaccine views, he ultimately voted in favor of confirming him after receiving assurances regarding vaccine policies.

Cassidy has refrained from directly criticizing Kennedy, but it’s evident that he’s growing increasingly concerned about the disruptions occurring within the federal health department.
