Nexstar Made the Right Choice to Suspend Jimmy Kimmel's Shows After He Shared False Information About Charlie Kirk's Assassination

Nexstar Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Show Following Controversial Remarks

Brendan Kerr, the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), announced that Nexstar has decided to cease airing the Jimmy Kimmel show. This action comes after Kimmel made a remark suggesting that the assassin of conservative figure Charlie Kirk might have ties to Trump supporters.

“I want to commend Nexstar for making this decision,” Kerr stated. He emphasized that local broadcasters hold a responsibility to act in the public’s best interest. While this might be an unusual move, it highlights the importance of prioritizing community values over specific programming from Disney.

As reported by various sources, including Breitbart News, Nexstar has opted to remove Kimmel’s show from all its channels. This decision follows his comments, which Nexstar described as “aggressive and insensitive” at a particularly heated time in national political discussion. They expressed a desire to foster a return to more respectful and constructive conversation.

Before this suspension was enacted, Kerr mentioned that ABC, which is owned by Disney, had the potential to revoke its broadcasting license if such remarks continued.

Kerr added that Kimmel seems to be challenging a narrative that associates certain violent actions with the MAGA movement, which is often debated. “People sometimes overlook that these stations have licenses granted by us at the FCC. They are obligated to operate in the public interest, and this is not a straightforward issue,” Kerr noted, suggesting that there are multiple ways to approach such topics.
