Matt Freeze Signs Long-Term Contract with NYCFC

Matt Freeze has committed his future to New York City FC, securing a long-term deal.

This summer, the standout goalkeeper for the US men’s national team during the Gold Cup signed a contract extension that will keep him in New York City through 2030.

Freeze, now 27, shared the news during the “New York Men’s Live” event on Thursday night, much to the delight of NYCFC fans gathered at Terminal 5.

“We’re thrilled to announce this new contract which lasts until the end of 2030,” he stated during his onstage remarks.

Since joining NYCFC before the 2023 season, Freeze has become a key player, appearing in 83 matches and achieving 275 saves alongside 20 clean sheets. He even earned the club MVP award in 2024.

In the current season, he’s been instrumental in helping NYCFC secure 15 wins so far in MLS, placing the club at fifth in the Eastern Conference.

“We’re really pleased to have Matt’s future secured through this extension,” said sports director David Lee in a statement. “Over the past two seasons, he’s proven himself as one of the top goalkeepers in MLS and has also become a crucial role model. His character, leadership, and professionalism significantly strengthen our club’s foundation.”

Freeze also played a vital role for the national team, participating in all six matches of the Gold Cup and achieving two shutouts, although the team ultimately fell short in the final against Mexico.

“He’s shown remarkable growth this season, helping maintain one of the league’s best defensive records,” Lee mentioned. “His reliability and composure have rightfully earned him a spot on the US national team, reflecting both his development and NYCFC’s performance. As he reaches the pinnacle of his career, we’re excited for him to keep evolving and contributing to our success as a club and for the national team.”

In a video shared on social media by the team, Freeze expressed his confidence in both the team’s roster and the guidance of Lee and coach Pascal Jansen, highlighting these factors as part of his decision to remain in New York.
