FCC chair believes looking into ‘The View’ is valuable following Jimmy Kimmel's suspension

FCC Chair Questions “The View’s” Status as a News Program

Brendan Carr, the Chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), recently suggested it might be a good idea to investigate whether ABC’s “The View” is breaching broadcast regulations. This comes amid the indefinite suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

During a conversation on Scott Jennings’ podcast, Carr raised the question of whether the left-leaning daytime talk show could really be classified as a “bona fide news” program. If it were indeed considered a news show, it could violate the FCC’s “equal time” rule, which mandates that broadcasters provide equal airtime and opportunities for all political candidates.

“Potentially, I would assume you can make the argument that ‘The View’ is a bona fide news show, but I’m not so sure about that,” Carr remarked. “I think it’s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether ‘The View,’ and some of these other programs, still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore are exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place.”

Carr’s remarks are particularly notable given his past criticism of “The View.” Now, following ABC’s suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” they take on a different weight.
