Country Artist Alexis Wilkins Stands Firm on Patriotism
Country music artist and conservative commentator Alexis Wilkins recently opened up about her decision to keep the American flag in her Instagram bio—an act she describes as a turning point in embracing her conservative values.
Interestingly, she mentioned that she wasn’t very politically aware before college, but her experiences in the classroom led to a significant change. “I got an F in class, but in my life, I earned an A for my politics,” she shared. For Wilkins, the struggle over her grades seemed like a way to signal to her professor that she was resisting attempts at indoctrination.
Wilkins expressed that country music typically attracts people who “love America,” yet some industry peers have still pressured her to conform to their views. “I was told to remove the American flag from my bio, and if I wanted to sign with a label, I’d need to endorse certain things or alter my approach to touring. Sometimes I feel like I’ve had to back down,” she admitted.
She highlighted an irony in the arts, noting that some in the industry view her patriotic stance as “partisan,” a label she finds absurd. Wilkins was even cautioned during the 2016 election that collaborating with certain veteran organizations might come off as politically charged.
Despite the challenges, she remains resolute. “I was fundamentally American, and I wasn’t going to compromise,” she stated, firmly maintaining her pride in her country.
