In her forthcoming memoir titled “107 Days,” former Vice President Kamala Harris shares her insights on President Biden, noting that he appeared “tired” during his reelection campaign, which she attributes to his age.
Harris describes him as having been “deeper and more knowledgeable” than Donald Trump, especially on his most challenging days, stating that he demonstrated better judgment and compassion. However, she writes, “At 81, Joe is tired,” emphasizing the physical and verbal struggles related to his age.
The decision for Biden to seek a second presidential term in 2024 has sparked significant criticism, centered around worries regarding his age and mental acuity. These concerns were highlighted during a presidential debate last year, where Harris observed key moments with President Trump.
Upon entering the debate stage, Biden seemed to realize something was off, according to Harris. After a period, he chose to step back from the race, leading Harris to announce her own candidacy.
Harris addresses the speculation regarding Biden’s “weakness” in her memoir, expressing confidence in his ability to fulfill presidential responsibilities. “I don’t think it’s incompetence,” she asserts, adding that if she believed otherwise, it would have been voiced. Her loyalty lies with both Biden and the nation.
She did mention, though, that Biden’s advisors should have recognized the strain he was under throughout the campaign. Harris suggested that while he didn’t reassess his choice to run, the decision may have been “reckless.” However, she felt ill-equipped to suggest he withdraw, worried it might reflect poorly on her motives.
Ultimately, Harris lost to Trump in the presidential election after a brief run. Her book aims to candidly reflect on the shortest presidential campaign in recent history, with its release set for next week. Recently, Harris announced an international book tour that will take her to 15 cities, including locations in the UK and Canada.
