Scott Hanson’s Gameday Routine on NFL Sundays
NFL players and coaches are known for their dedication on the field, but Scott Hanson, host of “NFL Redzone,” takes it to another level. For seven to eight hours during his show, he pushes himself to the limit, foregoing food, drinks, and even bathroom breaks.
In a recent chat, Hanson shared insights into his painstaking Sunday preparations. His day kicks off around 4 or 4:30 a.m. He’s so accustomed to this routine that he often doesn’t even need an alarm. “I take a shower, and believe it or not, I don’t drink coffee,” he revealed, which might surprise those who see his high energy.
Once in the studio—about five hours before the show—Hanson sticks to a specific breakfast designed to manage hydration. “The network chefs ensure I eat a dense, salty protein breakfast. It helps me retain water to avoid restroom trips,” he explained, noting that he stops eating and drinking approximately three and a half hours before going live.
A couple of hours ahead of kickoff, he attends a production meeting to align with the crew. “We go through notes to ensure everyone understands the storylines and key facts we need to cover,” he stated. After this meeting, he suits up and rehearses the show, scripting the first couple of minutes to set the stage with the right energy.
Interestingly, his last bathroom break happens just minutes before the show starts. “While you’re all watching the clock, I’m finally having my moment in the restroom,” he quipped. Then, just as the clock hits 10 a.m., it’s time to launch into an exhilarating day filled with touchdowns.
Recently, Hanson teamed up with Lowe’s for a “Making Sunday” initiative. The idea is to encourage fans to apply the same commitment they give to their teams to their household projects. “This campaign is all about allowing fans to feel productive without guilt for taking it easy on Sundays,” he said.
Hanson likens the preparation for Sunday games—with thrilling players like Justin Jefferson and Dak Prescott— to a fun adventure. “I think this season will be exciting,” he added, hinting at the anticipation that surrounds game day.
