Indiana Fever Advances to WNBA Semi-Finals Despite Caitlin Clark’s Injury
When Caitlin Clark announced that she’d miss the remainder of the season earlier this month, many fans were resigned to a disappointing end for the Indiana Fever. Surprisingly, that hasn’t been the case at all. In a thrilling conclusion, Indiana secured a spot in the WNBA semi-finals, marking their first appearance since 2015, following a nail-biting 87-85 win over the Atlanta Dream.
With just 7.4 seconds remaining, Aliyah Boston made a critical basket, and Lexie Hull managed to snag the inbound pass to seal the victory.
Indiana’s late-game surge, a 7-0 run, clinched their first playoff series win in a decade. Boston fought through a tangle with Bryonna Jones to claim a loose ball, enabling an easy layup that put Indiana in the lead at 86-85 during a tense matchup that had seen them trailing 33-30 at one point.
Kelsey Mitchell was the standout for Indiana with 24 points. Boston contributed with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. Odyssey Sims added 16 points and eight assists, while Natasha Howard chipped in 12. Unfortunately, Sophie Cunningham is currently sidelined due to an injury.

Britney Grinner, in her first season with the Dream after a lengthy career with the Phoenix Mercury, managed to score five points and grab eight rebounds. Clark’s second season in the WNBA was certainly challenging; she dealt with a significant injury leading up to the All-Star break.
Considered a frontrunner for the MVP award before her injuries, Clark participated in only 13 games this season. She initially faced quad issues and then fell victim to a different ailment, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and five rebounds across 31.1 minutes of play.
Now, the sixth-seeded Fever will take on the second-seeded Las Vegas Aces, a team that’s made it to three of the last five WNBA finals. It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds.
