Glenn Close Opens Up About Nudity in New Film

Glenn Close is embracing her own sense of freedom, quite literally. In a recent interview, the 78-year-old actress spoke about her approach to nudity in her upcoming film, The Summer Book. “I’m not nervous about it at all,” she shared, “Actually, it was my idea.” Close explained that her character’s nudity reflects a natural state, especially in Finland, where people are more accustomed to being naked.

In the film, there’s a scene where her character walks through the forest without any clothes. Close, humorously adding to the context, mentioned, “I didn’t want to put my clothes back on. It feels so good.” It’s interesting how she seems to connect nudity with a feeling of liberation.

The Summer Book is based on a novel by Tove Jansson, telling a poignant story of a young girl who spends summers in Finland with her grandmother, dealing with their shared grief after the death of the girl’s mother.

“In Finland, they’re more used to being naked than us,” she noted, reflecting on cultural differences.

This year, Close embraced her own grandmother role with the arrival of her granddaughter, Rory, earlier this year. She and her family have made their home in Montana since 2019. She shared her thoughts on raising her grandson in such a natural environment. “He’ll know how things grow and respect wildlife,” she said, recalling her own childhood experiences running around in nature.

Close reflected on her life in Montana, feeling connected yet realizing how distant she is from where she grew up. She mentioned in a previous interview that while she didn’t feel homesick before, now she’s beginning to “realize how far I’m leaving.”

As she continues to build her legacy, she’s working on a second home not far from her current residence. “It will be a sanctuary for my family,” she explained, hinting that this new space would hold significant sentimental value. “The back will have a stone cottage, reminiscent of my best childhood years.”

Close’s journey through her roles and personal life sheds light on her priorities, and it’s clear she deeply values family and nature in her life.
