Kevin Durant’s Bitcoin Access Restored

On March 30, 2025, NBA player Kevin Durant, sporting number 35 for the Phoenix Suns, will compete against the Houston Rockets at the PHX Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.

In recent news, Durant has regained access to his Bitcoin account after a few years of being locked out of his Coinbase account. Coinbase’s CEO, Brian Armstrong, announced the recovery via social media, stating, “We fixed this. Account recovery is complete.” This was in response to a tweet indicating Durant’s account issues.

This update comes shortly after Durant and his agent, Rich Kleiman, shared a light-hearted moment about the situation during the CNBC Game Plan Meeting in Los Angeles. Kleiman remarked, “This is just a process that we couldn’t understand. But Bitcoin continues to rise… so I think it’s just profiting us.”

Back in 2016, Durant purchased Bitcoin from Coinbase after hearing about it multiple times while dining with a former teammate from the Golden State Warriors. At that time, Bitcoin’s price fluctuated between around $360 and $1,000. Now, the cryptocurrency trades at approximately $116,000, according to recent data.

Durant and his agents, who also have stakes in Coinbase and influence in the sports and entertainment sectors, did not disclose how much Bitcoin the basketball star holds on the platform. The situation has prompted widespread discourse about Coinbase’s customer service, highlighting the challenges many users face in accessing assistance on social media.

This episode adds to ongoing criticisms of Coinbase’s support services. Earlier this year, the company faced backlash after reports surfaced of cybercriminals compromising some overseas support agents and leaking personal information. Furthermore, dissatisfaction with the company’s new live phone support model has been prevalent, with some users referring to it as a “joke.”

In light of recent concerns, Armstrong addressed user feedback on the quality of customer service. He stated, “We have a big focus on improving customer support on both ends. A few improvements are needed to provide a faster, higher-quality experience.” Coinbase, however, has not yet responded regarding specific measures to enhance its customer service. Earlier this week, the platform mentioned it was trying to provide a 24-hour assistance hotline in addition to self-help resources for common issues.
