Baltimore — Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. Highlights Athleticism in Game Against Orioles
When the Yankees picked up Jazz Chisholm Jr. before last year’s trade deadline, general manager Brian Cashman emphasized his impressive athleticism and the joy he brings to the game.
Those qualities were evident during the Yankees’ 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yard. On Friday, Chisholm faced left-handed pitcher Dietrichens, hitting his 30th home run of the season during the seventh inning.
He also notched 30 stolen bases this season—a significant achievement. “We want to win, but that’s great,” Chisholm commented on his personal milestone.
Two two-run home runs from Enns, a former Yankee, narrowed the deficit for the Yankees, but they couldn’t catch the Blue Jays in the AL East.
This performance is yet another testament to Chisholm’s growth as a player and his significance to a team aiming for postseason success.
Only three Yankees have reached this milestone so far, joining the ranks of Soriano and Bobby Bond from 1975.
“Hitting 30-30 means a lot,” Aaron Boone remarked regarding Chisholm. “It definitely aligns with his skill set.”
This year, the only other player to achieve this feat before Chisholm was Juan Soto, who joined the club for the first time this season.
Boone noted that injuries limited Chisholm’s performance this season, hindering his numbers and his speed while he was recovering. “He’s been improving gradually since coming from Miami,” Boone said, and added, “The more consistent he becomes, the more of a threat he is. His speed makes him dynamic.”
Despite some errors during the game, including a misplay on a grounder that contributed to two crucial runs for the Orioles, the Yankees appreciate Chisholm’s contributions. Will Warren pointed out, “He brings a lot to our defense and the base paths.”
Chisholm is already making a strong name for himself and believes that if he can maintain his health throughout a full season, hitting 40 home runs and stealing 40 bases could be within reach. “I’ve been saying that since I was a rookie,” he mentioned.
