Giants facing weakened Chiefs with Xavier Worthy sidelined

The Sunday match for the Giants has possibly become a bit easier.

Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been downgraded from questionable to out before their third “Sunday Night Football” game at MetLife Stadium.

At just 22, he’s not making the trip as he recovers from a shoulder injury sustained during a week of practice when he collided with Travis Kelce.

He has had limited participation in practice all week, yet Coach Andy Reid mentioned on Friday that he looked fast and performed well during the sessions.

Still, it was evident that Worthy wasn’t quite game-ready.

Receiver Jalen Royals, who is behind Worthy on the depth chart, is also uncertain for the game due to a knee injury. If he plays on Sunday, it would mark his NFL debut after being drafted in the fourth round this year.

Worthy dislocated his shoulder in a rough hit with Kelce in the first quarter of the season opener against the Chargers, leaving the Chiefs at 0-2.

Kelce said the collision was unintentional. He was trying to separate himself from a defender and inadvertently took out Worthy.

After that play, Kelce expressed frustration, saying, “I felt terrible.” He discussed the incident on the “New Heights” podcast, sharing how frustrating it is to accidentally hurt a teammate like that.

He added, “It’s tough starting a season like this. But I think you can turn things around in the second half; you’ve just got to be accountable and start strong.”

As of now, the Giants (0-2) are holding their ground against the Chiefs, who have only managed an average of 19 points over their first two games.
