UNT football player honors alum 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin with a celebration

University of North Texas Football Updates

A University of North Texas football player had an interesting moment during a game on Saturday, following a successful celebration after recovering a fumble.

North Texas started strong, scoring against the Army Black Knights at West Point right from their first drive. However, during the Army’s progression, a player named Noah Short fumbled, which was recovered by defensive lineman Kevyan Huddleston.

After his play, Huddleston received a WWE-style belt decorated in average green, reminiscent of the iconic celebrations by professional wrestling star “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. It’s interesting to note that Austin, known for his beer celebrations during wrestling, also played football at North Texas for a couple of years before his wrestling career took off. Although, it’s unclear if the cans Huddleston used were actually filled with beer.

The game took a turn as North Texas established a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Although they led 28-7 at one point, they ended up in overtime with a tied score of 38-38. The Army scored 10 critical points in the last moments of the game, with a touchdown on four downs and a field goal after recovering a fumble.

In overtime, North Texas pulled ahead again with a touchdown, while Army couldn’t respond in kind, leading to a final score of 45-38. This victory marked an impressive 4-0 record for North Texas this season.
