John Schneider Releases Song in Honor of Charlie Kirk

Actor and musician John Schneider, famously known from “Dukes of Hazzard,” recently shared the story behind his latest song dedicated to Charlie Kirk. On Friday, the 65-year-old Schneider unveiled “Charlie’s Words,” which he describes as an anthem in memory of the Turning Point USA founder, who was tragically shot during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

In a conversation, Schneider stated he would be donating the song’s earnings to Turning Point USA and discussed its intention to motivate action following Kirk’s untimely passing. “I think we’re already being asked to take action,” he remarked. “This song pays tribute to a remarkable individual and serves as a rallying cry for those ready to act.”

Schneider elaborated, noting the song signifies a “battle of wisdom” and “a showdown between good and evil.” He feels that recent years have increasingly reflected this clash. Or, you know, maybe it’s a bit more nuanced than that—he jokingly added, “But I’m just a bourbon-drinking Christian guy, so what do I know?”

He expressed hope that the song would inspire individuals to effect change in their communities and emphasize the importance of perspectives in the current political climate. “We shouldn’t be complacent. We need to strive for better conditions for our kids and the elderly,” he said. It’s a sentiment that resonates, doesn’t it? The notion of wanting better for future generations is something many can agree on.

Tragically, Kirk’s death occurred as he was engaging with supporters, encouraging debate during his signature “Prove Me Wrong” discussions. A suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was apprehended days after the incident and faces numerous serious charges, including first-degree murder. Some of his social media messages hinted at political motivations contrasting with Kirk’s conservative views.

In light of Kirk’s assassination, various individuals in diverse professions have faced repercussions for making disparaging remarks about him online. Schneider remarked that it was a wave of negativity he encountered that first spurred him to write “Charlie’s Words.”

Reflecting on Kirk’s impact, Schneider emphasized the absurdity of the backlash against someone who gave many a platform. He mentioned that even though many admire Kirk, there’s still a troubling amount of anger directed towards him. “It’s tragic to see,” he lamented. “He invited dialogue and challenged others, but some just didn’t pause to understand.” This feeling of misunderstanding could, perhaps, be something many can relate to in various contexts.

Looking ahead, Schneider acknowledged that part of the song draws inspiration from both Kirk’s words and his widow, Erica, who recently paid tribute during her first speech since his passing. “Charlie empowered people, regardless of their differences. He made his voice heard,” Schneider added. Some poignant lines in the song echo that sentiment, urging people to contribute to meaningful discussions instead of resorting to hostility.

In a hopeful tone, Schneider remarked that now, more than ever, there is a responsibility to uphold Kirk’s legacy. “It’s our turn to get active,” he asserted, suggesting that the time for passivity is over.

A public memorial for Kirk is slated for Sunday at State Farm Stadium, where significant figures, including Trump, are expected to speak. Schneider mentioned that he and his wife would be tuning in, eager to honor Kirk’s memory—as they both feel he truly deserves an extraordinary send-off.
