Apple Launches New iPhone Models
The latest iPhone model, the iPhone 17, became available globally on Friday, attracting many eager customers.
Among its new offerings is the iPhone Air, which sits between the more budget-friendly iPhone 17 and the pricier iPhone 17 Pro. The iPhone 17 is priced at $799, while the iPhone Air comes in at $999, and the iPhone 17 Pro is set at $1,099.
Apple claims the iPhone Air is the slimmest version ever, measuring just 5.6 millimeters with a 6.5-inch display. It boasts a durable titanium frame and an advanced ceramic shield on both sides, making it, according to Apple, their most robust iPhone to date. Additionally, the new design includes a remade plateau to cater to its thinner profile.
In terms of performance, Apple has integrated a faster and more efficient CPU along with a second-generation GPU, which aims to facilitate advanced AI computing similar to that of MacBook devices via integrated nerve accelerators.
Investment in U.S. Manufacturing
The White House has reported that Apple will announce a commitment of $100 million towards U.S. manufacturing. This is part of a larger push to bolster domestic production.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, stated that the introduction of the iPhone Air would enhance the capabilities of the iPhone 17 Pro, referring to it as “the most advanced iPhone ever.” Notably, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will now offer a configuration with 2 terabytes of storage.
In addition to the new iPhones, Apple also revealed updates to its smartwatch and AirPods earlier this month.
The release on September 9 coincides with analyst commentary suggesting that the iPhone Air could pave the way for a foldable device, similar to offerings from Samsung, especially after Google introduced a folding smartphone recently.
However, the new iPhone does not feature significant changes to Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri.
Apple’s recent partnership with OpenAI hints at new AI capabilities for their operating system, prompting speculation about further collaborations and potential updates to Siri in the near future.
