Van Jones Reflects on Charlie Kirk’s Last Message Before His Tragic Death

Liberal CNN contributor Van Jones expressed his appreciation for Charlie Kirk’s outreach, noting that just a day before Kirk’s tragic assassination, he received a message inviting him for a respectful debate. The two had been publicly discussing the murder of Ukrainian refugees and its connections to race.

Jones shared that Kirk believed the violence against white women by black males was driven by anti-white sentiments, a claim Jones contested, deeming it “basically unfounded.” He mentioned how Kirk dismissed his accusation on television and subsequently challenged him in what he called a “Tweet Fire Truck.” The intensity of their exchange was evident.

In the wake of Kirk’s assassination, Dana White remarked how profoundly affected she was by the event, saying his daughter was completely “destroyed.” Kirk had openly invited former Obama officials to converse respectfully about issues of crime and race, signaling a desire for constructive dialogue. Unfortunately, Jones indicated that before he could respond, Kirk was killed. The motive behind the assassination remains under investigation, but it seems deeply tied to his publicly expressed views.

As Kirk’s memorial services took place in Arizona, there was an outpouring of support. JD Vance noted a troubling “uniformity” among those who celebrated the assassination. Jones took the opportunity to commend Kirk’s drive for discussions with students on college campuses and for engaging with progressives in a civil manner.

He expressed that neither he nor Kirk wanted to see anyone harmed or silenced because of their differing views. In fact, he remarked he would prefer to engage in intellectual debate with Kirk rather than resort to political conflict.

Following the tragic events, Jones took to Twitter to condemn political violence, asserting that violence has no place in society and emphasizing the importance of accountability for such actions, stating that the attack on Kirk was “horrifying and heartbreaking.”

Jones reflected on the broader impact of political murder, sharing his worries about returning to a society marred by hostility and division, reaffirming that no one should want to go back to that.
