Deion Sanders Predicts Son’s Future with the Browns
Deion Sanders, focusing on the quarterback dynamics of the Colorado Buffaloes, recently made some bold comments regarding the Cleveland Browns and his son, Shedeur Sanders. He expressed confidence that Shedeur would eventually take the starting position for the Browns sometime this season.
During an appearance on the “New Heights” podcast, hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, Deion shared his insights. He mentioned that Shedeur has an instinctive sense of when his moment will come. When asked what advice he offered to his son, who is currently waiting for his chance behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, Deion emphasized the need for patience and preparation. He didn’t specify when he thought Shedeur might start, and the Kelse brothers didn’t press him on that point.
Interestingly, the Browns have not indicated any intention to change their quarterback. Flacco has led the team to a 1-2 record across three games, and while the offense has struggled, the defense remains one of the top in the league.
Travis Kelce commented amid the discussion, saying, “Shedeur Sanders wants to start for the Browns: Give people what they want.” It’s worth noting, however, that Shedeur isn’t exactly a prominent backup at this moment. Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted two rounds ahead of him, has already claimed that position after a successful preseason performance, as noted by head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Deion also recounted the unpredictable draft night, stating that Shedeur slipped to the fifth round before being picked by Cleveland. Interest from both the Baltimore Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles was apparent, he revealed.
Former top pick, Cam Newton, recently expressed interest regarding the Eagles’ pursuit of Shedeur. On the Ravens’ side, Deion confirmed that Shedeur had communicated to executive vice president Ozzie Newsom that he preferred not to sit behind Lamar Jackson for an extended period.
“How could someone want that?” Deion mused during his podcast. The Browns selected Shedeur with an eye toward the future, viewing Flacco as a temporary solution until one of their rookies is truly ready. Currently, the coaching staff seems to believe Gabriel has the lead, but of course, it’s still early in the season.
At this point, Shedeur is third on the depth chart, but Deion maintains that his son will get his opportunity in time. Whether that will be this season remains uncertain.
