Packers’ LaFleur Responds to Players’ Undefeated Optimism

Matt LaFleur is not exactly thrilled when he hears his players discussing the possibility of the Packers finishing the season undefeated, especially ahead of their upcoming game against the Browns.

Rashid Walker, a tackle for the Packers, mentioned that the team could be undefeated before the game. In response, LaFleur expressed to reporters on Monday his desire to “rile him” for looking too far ahead. “I mean, it’s just not where our focus should be right now,” he added.

The prospect of going undefeated, while exciting, isn’t something LaFleur wants his team to dwell on. He pointed out that it’s crucial to take things one game at a time. “I’ve probably mentioned this a million times,” he said, indicating that he feels the need to reiterate the importance of focusing on the present. “To go 1-0 every week. It’s just essential.”

“When I start hearing talk about anything other than the next game, it makes me mad,” LaFleur admitted. His frustration reflects a deeper concern for the team’s mental state, especially after their unexpected loss.

Last week, the Packers faced the Browns and, surprisingly, ended up losing after leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter. This loss marked a jagged ending to their unbeaten start.

“We need to remember to just stay focused on the game at hand,” LaFleur stated. “It’s about getting back to the fundamentals and learning from our mistakes.”

“So I think it’s a reminder,” he added thoughtfully, “to put the brakes on any distractions. If you focus on anything other than the immediate goal, you’re probably missing the mark.” The takeaway seems to be clear: the Packers need to adjust their focus, learn from last week’s game, and keep moving forward.
