Emma Watson Reflects on Acting Career

Emma Watson has spoken candidly about her experiences in the acting world.

In a recent chat with People Magazine, the 35-year-old star of Harry Potter shared her thoughts on her career and the projects she misses since stepping back from acting.

“In a lot of ways, I really hit the jackpot,” Watson noted, reminiscing about her time as a child star. She acknowledged that her journey was “very rare,” yet expressed contentment with some of the work she chose to leave behind.

She elaborated, saying, “However, the larger issue is often about promoting and selling that work—this art, I mean.”

“Finding that balance can be quite tricky. It’s a straightforward process, really.”

Watson first gained fame at age 11, playing Hermione Granger in the initial Harry Potter film. She reprised this role across all eight films, turning 21 when the final installment debuted in 2011.

Following the end of the franchise, she continued to take on leading roles, notably portraying Belle in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast in 2017.

Her most recent film was the 2019 adaptation of Little Women, where she played Meg March.

“I definitely use my skills and miss it a lot. Art is something I truly miss,” she said. “I realized I had to focus on doing things I genuinely enjoyed.”

While discussing her experiences, Watson mentioned that actors often “have to divide themselves into multiple personas.” She observed how, along with embodying characters, they also manage “the weight of public personas.”

These public personas need regular upkeep—constant attention and charm.

“It’s incredibly draining, and by allowing these different identities to coexist, I’ve created much space to be a better sister, daughter, friend, granddaughter, and artist,” she reflected. “I’m also someone trying to think critically about herself.”

In October 2022, Watson’s former co-star Tom Felton published his memoir, Wand: Magic and Mayhem.

In the intro, Watson talked about her deep friendship with Felton, expressing that they’ve always had a special bond. She referred to him as a “soulmate” and described their friendship as “one of the purest loves I can think of.”

“You know that person in your life who makes you feel seen? They’re like the witnesses to your unfolding story,” she added.
