Maureen McCormick Celebrates 40 Years of Marriage
Maureen McCormick, famously known for her role as Marcia Brady in “The Brady Bunch,” recently marked a significant milestone: her 40th wedding anniversary.
She and her husband, Michael Cummings, shared their insights on maintaining a long-lasting marriage in Hollywood. Surprisingly, their secret isn’t all that complicated.
“A sense of humor is essential,” Cummings remarked during an event in Los Angeles. “You really can’t take everything too seriously. You have to release the small stuff, love deeply, and understand it’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of connection.”
McCormick chimed in, emphasizing the importance of celebrating their differences. She mentioned how quickly they realized they wanted to spend their lives together.
Interestingly, when Cummings first met McCormick, he wasn’t influenced by her television fame.
“I didn’t know who she was at the time,” he said. “But I saw something in her eyes and just fell for her.”
For McCormick, this lack of recognition was refreshing. “It felt exhilarating,” she recalled. “He had no biased expectations of who I was, which was just amazing.”
Reflecting on her childhood dreams of marriage, McCormick expressed her longstanding desire to find a partner. The couple began their relationship in the 1980s, tied the knot in 1985, and welcomed their daughter, Natalie, in 1989.
Over the years, they’ve focused on family over fame. “Honestly, we continue to celebrate our anniversary,” McCormick noted, acknowledging that maintaining their relationship takes effort. “I’m just incredibly grateful we found each other.”
McCormick, who starred in “The Brady Bunch” from 1969 to 1974, has appeared in various spin-offs and other shows, including “The Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island.” She even competed on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2016.
In a heartfelt Instagram post earlier this year, she referred to Cummings as her “Eternal Valentine.” She has also discussed maintaining her sobriety for over 40 years, noting that it’s a journey that has shaped her life.
McCormick candidly talked about her struggles with addiction after “The Brady Bunch” ended, expressing how challenging it was at first but also how it has improved over time. She mentioned feeling “incredibly lucky” to have found stability and clarity in her life, largely thanks to her husband and close family.
She described her battle with drug addiction and bulimia in her memoir, delving into her struggles during a period when she was expected to maintain a perfect image. Reflecting on her journey, McCormick outlined her past experiences and resilience.
It was Cummings who played a crucial role in her recovery. “He once told me if I went back to drugs, he would leave,” McCormick shared, recounting how that wake-up call was pivotal for her.
