Kamala Harris Reflects on 2024 Interview Moments

Former Vice President Kamala Harris discussed her response during an interview from 2024 on Tuesday’s episode of “107 Days” on ABC. She pointed out that her book is centered on reflection and highlighted how the interviews exemplified significant issues.

During an October 2024 interview on “The View,” co-host Sunny Hostin had asked Harris if she had approached her role differently than President Biden. At the time, she responded nonchalantly with “I didn’t care,” which seemed to suggest that she wasn’t really considering herself a candidate for change.

On Tuesday, Hostin pressed Harris again about distinguishing her perspective from Biden’s. Harris acknowledged that her close relationship with the president might create some challenges.

“I knew this would be an issue,” Harris told Hostin, who noted that the questions she raised were echoed by others, including comments from Trump’s campaign. She suggested that her responses were being politicized for various agendas.

Hostin inquired whether she believed that moment had affected the election. Harris quickly responded with a firm “No,” while co-host Joy Behar chimed in, seemingly relieved that Hostin didn’t want to bear any responsibility for it.

Reflecting on her past comments, Harris admitted she hadn’t fully grasped just how significant her connection with Biden would be during their election cycle. She thought she had managed to highlight the differences between them without seeming disingenuous.

“I recognized that President Biden was quite unpopular,” Hostin pointed out, emphasizing the context in which Harris was operating during the campaign.

Harris’s original response to Hostin had gone viral, but not in a good way. It was featured in advertisements by former President Donald Trump and was perceived as a setback for her candidacy. In her reflections, she mentioned she lacked awareness about how impactful her words in that moment could be.

She shared a moment of levity from the set during the interview, recalling that her staff and young audience members brought joy to an otherwise tense situation. Harris described her interactions with students who, after the show, even offered to write a note to their teacher about their experience. However, she also admitted that despite those light moments, the damage from her earlier comments had already taken its toll.
