Bryson DeChambeau autographs as Ryder Cup crowd rushes barricade in chaotic scene

DeChambeau Draws a Crowd at Ryder Cup

At the Ryder Cup, Bryson DeChambeau might require more than just metal barriers to manage the enthusiastic fans flocking to him. During his time at Bethpage Black, he attracted such a large gathering that Ryder Cup personnel had to hold the barriers to prevent them from tipping over.

The scene seemed familiar to DeChambeau, who appeared relaxed while staff in powder blue sweater vests worked hard to maintain order at the entrance.

As things unfolded, videos captured the moment, showing security and staff holding signs for fans—many of whom appeared to be children—while barriers were raised further down the line.

A young fan enthusiastically exclaimed, “Bryson, I’m going to cry, I love you!” which highlighted the excitement in the air. DeChambeau responded by signing the staff member’s blue sweater vest, acknowledging their effort to manage the crowd.

It was clear that DeChambeau felt the warmth and support from Long Island fans throughout his practice round on Tuesday.

In another clip, he hit a powerful shot off the tee, leading the crowd to chant “America!” and cheering loudly in response. Just moments later, he launched a 200 mph ball, prompting cheers from fans who exclaimed, “Rory can’t do that, Bryson!”

The comments hinted at the ongoing rivalry between DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy, adding a layer of excitement to the event.

This marked the first day fans could enter the course at Bethpage State Park, occurring less than a day after golf analyst Brandel Chamblee had criticized DeChambeau, labeling him a “Captain’s Nightmare.”

In stark contrast, American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley offered a different viewpoint on DeChambeau. He emphasized, “Bryson faces unique challenges. He makes a significant effort to connect with fans and fellow players, balancing a tough schedule while still going above and beyond for the team.” Bradley’s remarks highlighted DeChambeau’s dedication in a demanding environment.
