Ramaswamy Talks Trump Offer and Focus on Ohio Governor Race

In a recent appearance on the “Pod Force One” podcast, Vivek Ramaswamy, a contender for the Ohio governorship, shared insights about a cabinet position President Trump supposedly offered him following the 2024 election. He hinted at a different approach to government efficiency compared to Elon Musk.

Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, disclosed to Miranda Devine that he initially aimed for a brief role in the administration before launching his campaign for Ohio. However, he was reportedly held back for the same reason Trump exited the administration before taking office.

“There were discussions about several candidates,” he noted.

Just a week after winning the election, Trump introduced the collaboration between Ramaswamy and Musk as part of the Doge Cost Cut Initiative, with both men working together on reform plans.

By January, it became clear that Ramaswamy stepped away from Doge to focus on his gubernatorial ambitions in Ohio.

“When I ran for president, my main platform centered around dismantling excessive regulatory barriers,” Ramaswamy remarked, adding that such regulations are stifling the economy’s potential.

He clarified, “I was prepared to run for Ohio governor, believing that my focus could really make a difference in an administration that could unlock true possibilities.”

Earlier in November, Musk and Ramaswamy had discussed how to leverage Doge against state regulations. Following Ramaswamy’s exit, efforts shifted toward cost-cutting initiatives.

Musk identified the nation’s budget deficit—approximately $2 trillion—as unsustainable and aimed to reduce it before concluding his role by late May.

Ramaswamy suggested there was a divergence in focus between him and Musk regarding the direction of Doge. “We need to confront the overregulated environment we have and tackle our mounting national debt,” he stated, emphasizing enforcement and legal measures as paths forward.

Reflecting on his experiences working closely with Musk, Ramaswamy described them as both “good” and “interesting.” When asked about the experience of collaborating with such a high-profile figure, he mentioned, “Musk is undeniably intelligent.”

As he advances in the race for the GOP nomination for Ohio governor, Ramaswamy expressed confidence in his capability to lead effectively. “I’m the ideal candidate to take charge,” he asserted, addressing whether pursuing the governorship might seem like a secondary option.
