Giants to Start Rookie Quarterback Jackson Dart

The New York Giants are making a significant change at quarterback, opting to start rookie Jackson Dart for the rest of the season. Coach Brian Daboll announced this on Wednesday, stating that the decision follows a poor performance from Russell Wilson and a string of defeats, including a recent loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

During a media session, Daboll mentioned he had conversations with both players but kept specifics private. He emphasized his confidence in Dart, saying, “It’s my decision, and we’re going with Jackson.” This move comes not just as a reaction to current struggles but is also part of a longer-term strategy, considering Dart was a first-round draft pick in 2025.

Wilson, 36, has had a mixed start to the season, with some strong individual performances overshadowed by the team’s overall lack of success. Dart, who impressed during preseason, is now set to lead the offense. Daboll expressed that the decision to transition to Dart has been in the making since April when the team invested in him as a potential future cornerstone at the position.

With the Giants falling short in their first few games, the stakes for Daboll and his staff are quite high. Coach Daboll recognized the pressure but remained optimistic, saying, “We didn’t put together everything we needed to in three games, so now it’s Jaxson’s turn.”

The rookie quarterback will make his debut at MetLife Stadium, where the atmosphere is sure to be electric. It’s a pivotal time for him, taking on an established Chargers team. While there are uncertainties—after all, it’s a tough league—Daboll believes Dart has shown enough resilience to compete.

The upcoming game will not only mark Dart’s first start in the regular season but also his introduction to Giants fans, which is an experience all its own. It’s definitely a critical juncture for both the player and the franchise. Hopefully, Dart can rise to the occasion; maybe, just maybe, he can spark a turnaround for the Giants. Only time will tell.
