Tragic Hit-and-Run in Midtown Manhattan

A hit-and-run incident in midtown Manhattan has left one person dead and another injured, as confirmed by police.

This unfortunate event occurred just before 2:40 PM. According to reports, a vehicle with a vanity plate reading “Times Square” struck a woman and her husband, who were visiting from Hamburg.

Authorities reported that the collision took place at East 40th Street, a busy thoroughfare. One eyewitness, who sells nuts nearby, claimed the van “sped away” after hitting the couple.

“The woman was trapped under the van as it turned around. The man was caught under a tire but managed to free himself,” the vendor recounted.

Emergency services declared a 50-year-old woman dead at the scene, while a 55-year-old man was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition later that evening.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with many expressing shock at the incident. Rosa Paredes, who operates an ice cream truck nearby, mentioned she heard the crash from inside her vehicle and described the moments surrounding it.

Another witness spoke of the crash as a “severe accident,” adding to the distress felt by those who observed the incident.

As of now, there have been no arrests made, and the NYPD’s Highway District crash investigation team is actively looking into the case. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
