Denmark seeks NATO's advice after drones disrupt flights at Aalborg airport

Denmark Considers NATO Article 4 Amid Drone Threats

Denmark is weighing the possibility of invoking NATO Article 4 after the closure of Aalborg airport due to the discovery of a second drone this week. The situation has prompted Danish officials to reach out to both NATO and the European Union due to heightened security concerns.

Reports indicate that Copenhagen is deliberating whether to trigger Article 4, which would convene a meeting of NATO member states. However, no official statements have been released yet from NATO or its Secretary General, Mark Latte.

The Danish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Troelz Lund Poursen, has asserted in a joint statement that Denmark is determined to “find the people behind this.” In terms of military readiness, officials hinted at their capabilities, such as F-35s and frigates, which could help defend the nation.

Smaller airports across Denmark also reported drone activity; thankfully, they were not significantly affected. Authorities are calling the drone situation a “hybrid attack” attributed to “professional actors.” Notably, local assessments suggest that the drones were operated from within Denmark rather than Russia.

In a related context, a drone event also impacted Copenhagen Airport on Monday, raising suspicions of a Russian connection behind that incident. Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredericksen characterized this as the most significant attack on Denmark’s vital infrastructure to date, mentioning that they are considering various possibilities regarding the perpetrators.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that the drone activity disrupting flights at Copenhagen Airport is part of a broader pattern of sustained conflict along their borders. Additionally, Norway’s Oslo airport faced a temporary closure for three hours due to similar concerns on Monday evening.

Fox News Digital has reached out to NATO for further comments on the evolving situation.
